A Brief Binet-Simon Scale

چکیده
Although the brief scale was developed as an experimental method, it has seemed advisable to consider its actual practicability. As a critique of its practical value I have applied the first brief scale (table III) to 154 public school children in the first four primarygrades of a large school in Millville, N. J. I am indebted to Mr. Ira J. Steiner, principal of the school, and to his teachers for the opportunity of making these tests. The tests were made by Mr. Steiner and myself with the assistance of three members of the Research Staff of the Vineland Laboratory. The purpose was twofold, first to determine the value of the tests under practical working conditions, and second to test the validity of the method in the hands of an untrained examiner. Mr. Steiner had had some previous acquaintance with educational measurements, and also was familiar with the general nature of the B-S Scale, and had observed a number of examinations in which it was employed. I personally instructed Mr. Steiner in the procedures and scores employed in giving the brief scale tests. The instruction period consumed no more than fifteen minutes and was supplemented by only one brief conference

متن کاملA Practical Guide for the Administration of the Binet-Simon Scale for Measuring Intelligence
Various considerations liave constrained me to prepare this, guide. First, the Binet-Simon scale is coming into wider and wider use in institutions for defectives (feebleminded, epileptic, insane, criminal, juvenile delinquents) and in the public schools throughout the country. Such varied application of the tests should in time yield valuable comparative knowledge of various classes of individ...

never be absolutely realized. The nearer we can approach this ideal, however, the more reliable a scale shall we possess for the grading of children and adults. The Binet-Simon Scale at first made great claim to be immune from the influences of experience. Although this is, no doubt, true of many of the tests, perhaps of a majority of them, there seem to be a few at least that can be justly cri...

The writer became much interested, while serving as Assistant Psychologist at the Boston Psychopathic Hospital in the summer of 1916, in "irregularity" on a psychological examination as shown by insane patients. The results of a special study of this subject, using the Point Scale, have already appeared,1 and were summarized briefly in a paper at the annual meetings of the Psychological Associa...

Jean Piaget, a biologist, philosopher, and most notably a developmental psychologist, had a profound impact upon many aspects of education. It is interesting that Piaget and his colleagues, Binet and Simon developed such different assessment procedures to measure aptitude and intelligence. The psychometric a...
